Our journey

Oxus Academy was born out of a need for decentralised education services in Afghanistan, following disruptions and exacerbated limitations due to a regime change in the country. Given education’s instrumental role in driving positive change in society, including alleviating the symptoms of poverty, improving health, gender equality, and driving economic growth, we set out on a mission to tackle the education gap in the country.

Kicking off a trial with 45 students and 5 teachers across the four provinces of Kabul, Helmand, Bamyan, and Mazar-i-Sharif, in October 2021, we tested both education material and platform functionalities. Followed by an iterative process that was powered by feedback from both students and teachers, the first version of Oxus Academy went live in November 2021.
